The success of any website, no matter if you are making money from Adsense, affiliate offers, e-books or anything in between depends mostly on one thing….

Traffic. It is easy understand, but not always easy to achieve.

Not just any type of traffic will do, you want targeted traffic. You could get 1 million viewers a month, but if they are not looking for what you are offering, you won’t make any money. It would be better to have 100-targeted viewers than 1,000,000 random viewers.

Instead of just hoping and praying for targeted traffic, why not create your content around specific keyword phrases that you know your potential clients are looking for. In this specific strategy, we are going to use long tail keywords to build content around your these specific keyword phrases and get to the top of Google after building only 50 backlinks or less.

Lets get started with the basics…

What is A Long Tail Keyword?

A long tail keyword is a keyword build up from 3 or more words, for example:

Marketing Grades

Short Tail / Main Keyword – Stop Smoking
Long Tail Keyword 1 – Stop Smoking Naturally
Long Tail Keyword 2 – How To Stop Smoking in 7 days

How Do I Use The Long Tail Keyword Strategy?

Long tail keywords are phrases that are usually low in SEO competition. Thus it is very easy for you to rank on page 1. While these keyword phrases are low traffic words (maybe 100 visitors month), when you implement this strategy with a large list of long tail keywords, you can easily generate large volumes of targeted traffic.

How To Get Your Articles To Rank On Page 1

To use this strategy is quite simple. The basic idea is to target and optimize an article around a specific long tail keyword phrase. To do this, use the keyword phrase in the following places:

  1. The page title must contain the keyword
  2. The first paragraph must contain the keyword
  3. The middle paragraph must contain the keyword or a phrase match variant
  4. The last paragraph must contain the keyword or a phrase match variant

And be sure to use the keyword phrase or a phrase match variant a few times naturally in each paragraph, and each paragraph should have 100 ~ 200 words.

When you use this basic but very powerful outline for writing your article you are half way to getting ranked on page 1 of Google. The other half of the equation is having quality backlinks to your article. An effective tool for building backlinks is Linkvana.  This is a blog network of high PR blogs that you can use to easily build as many quality backlinks to your aricle as needed to rank highly.
And once you have articles that are ranking very high, your other articles on your website will also start to show an improvement in rankings.  Eventually, you may even stop link building and continue to rank higher than other, however consistency is key and Linkvana is the perfect tool to drip relevant backlinks across your many niche articles.

Why Target Long Tail Keywords Instead Of Short Tail Keywords?
Competition. Simply put, it’s extremely competitive to rank for short tail keywords. Unless you have an the time, money and commitment it is much more cost and time effective to target long tail keywords.
Most Internet users know that they need to type in 2, 3 or even 4 keywords to effectively find what they are searching for. Thus you won’t be losing traffic. Quite the contrary actually, you will be gaining traffic because your article will target EXACTLY what they are searching for.
We hope you have learned more about the strategy of targeting long tail keywords instead of short tail keywords. In the next post, we are going to show you how to effectively do keyword research to discover some long tail keywords for your specific niche.

Marketing GradesMany people own a website and as part of that website, have a blog. And many people will actively promote their website through a variety of methods. These same people will also create blog posts…but then only hope for traffic to these posts. And do they usually get much traffic to these blog posts? Nope. Just like your website, you need to promote your blog posts too. Each time you create a new post, you are creating an opportunity for new traffic. And the more posts you have, the traffic you will get.

And believe it or not, there is actually a pretty straightforward method you can use to promote a new blog post on the top social and bookmarking sites like Digg.com, Reddit.com, and StumbleUpon.com…so that you can get instant traffic. It is not crazy to think you can receive thousands of visitors a day due to individual posts that become very popular through this method.

Even after abandoning the blog you can come back months later and still find it getting 100′s or 1,000′s of visitors a day just from some old posts.

So when writing each of your blog posts, you will do the following 4 things:

1.      Choose a Proven Idea to Blog About

2.      Write a Headline Using a Proven Formula for Emotional Attraction

3.      Write a High Quality Post With a Photo and Plenty of Links

4.      Submit Your Blog Post to Social Networking Sites for Instant Traffic

A solid blog post will generate both traffic and incoming links from social bookmarking sites like Digg.com and from other bloggers.

Now, lets look at these four steps in greater detail:

Step 1: Choose From 1 of 4 Proven Ideas for Your Posts

1.      Think of or find a very unique picture, a breaking news story, a controversial article, interesting or topical statistics, or someone else’s popular or interesting blog post. Then blog about it on your site.

2.      Find out what people want to read about right now. Visiting social networking sites as well as Technorati, Popurls.com and even Facebook to find the week’s hottest topics.

3.      Search social bookmarking sites for things related to your site that has been popular in the past. Do a search for your topic and see what post titles got the highest ratings. Digg.com is a good site to try this on!

4.      Dominate your niche by supplying the best and most interesting information before anyone else in your niche does. This will attract other bloggers to your post and they will want to link to you. If you dominate your niche, links will flood into your blog, thus bringing in more traffic.

I often use any one of these approaches and they can all be successful.

Step 2: With a Good Idea You Need to Write a Great Title

The most important part of link baiting is writing a great title that people won’t be able to resist clicking on.

To make is super easy for you, here are some title formulas you can use over and over again. Just pick one of these templates whenever you need a winning idea for a title:

Make sure that your post is worth reading. Put some effort into it and outline it with an introduction, a solid body and a logical conclusion.Write to make your content easily skimmable by using short paragraphs and sentences, multiple subheads throughout and bulleted lists whenever possible.

Go to istockphoto.com and find a good photo for $1 dollar and place that in your post near the top of the copy using WordPress’ built in image placement feature…and be sure to use one of keywords found earlier as the image name.

Add links from the content in your post to other resources on the Web that are related to your post. Do this throughout your post by linking words and phrases to useful resources and site.

Step 4: Submitting Your Blog Post to Social Networking Sites for Instant Traffic

Now that your post is written, you’ll needa to submit your blog post to a social bookmarking site to get a stream of traffic, and you’ll want to similarly post your pages to a number of social bookmarking sites to get traffic from all of them.
